If you're wondering whether it might be the right time to take the leap and move offices, there's some serious considerations to ponder before you take the plunge. 

  • Don't underestimate the Time & Planning involved

An office relocation involves advanced planning and a lot of dedication to manage and execute the move successfully.  Ideally it needs someone within your organisation who will "spearhead" the project, so ensure you have adequate resources internally.

  • Don't overlook your "Exit" Strategy

If your lease is up for expiry, ensure you leave plenty of time to give notice.  Best practice suggests that companies should be reviewing their options 9-18 months in advance of your lease expiry date.  If your lease is not nearing expiry, do you have a break clause and are you able to exercise it? 

  • Don't dive in without a Plan

Moving office without a clear direction and a set objectives will only lead to problems further down the line.  You will need to spend sometime thinking about your new office space requirements, budget, as well as other corporate issues such as how you are going to communicate the plan to your staff.

  • Don't be afraid to Ask

They'll be some aspects of your relocation that need to be handled by relocation professionals.  They include the finding of your office space (property agent), the checking of your lease (solicitor), design and plan of your new office (office fit-out company) and getting your belongings moved (removals company).  Don't be afraid to ask their advice and opinions and don't be tempted to do any of these by yourself.
