Create the right impression on your new office neighbours
Moving into a new office can be stressful but with a little effort you could have a productive, harmonious relationship with your neighbours in no time.
When you move into a new office making friends with your new neighbours might not be the first thing on your mind but it's something which should not be overlooked. A little effort can go a long way when it comes to sharing a business premises so it's definitely worth doing all you can to make a good first impression.
Better office organisation and an ever converging market mean it's now simpler than ever to form a harmonious, mutually beneficial relationship with your office neighbours. From holding a "new office" party to simply popping in for a quick hello, there are a number of things you can do to ensure you don't get on the wrong side of your new office neighbours before and more importantly after you've moved in.
1. Introduce yourself before the move: A simple thing like dropping by the office to quickly introduce yourself before the office relocation can really go a long way with existing tenants. It's always a good idea to apologise about any noise the move might cause in advance - this shows you're considerate and keen to not disrupt their work flow. Inviting them to a "new office" party can be a great ice breaker and could really help you to settle in to your new office.
2. Make a formal introduction once the office move is complete: If your new tenants are in a completely different market to you then it's not worth giving them an elaborate client presentation, however they might know someone who could help your business. You'll find that most businesses have a vast client base who they might be happy to share with you. Your new office building is a whole hive of networking opportunities which should not be overlooked!
3. Get in the spirit of things: You might not be the most outgoing person but it's important to make the effort with your new neighbours - after all, you don't know when you might need them. Why not invite them out for a drink at Christmas? This way everyone can get to know each other without the pressure of a business environment.
4. Be amenable: Try to do all you can to be amenable to your new office neighbours. This could be something as simple as buying some milk or giving their friends or family some discount off an order - like I said before; a little effort can really go a long way!
