Guidance on arranging shifts around your relocation
Discover how effectively planning your work flow around moving office can take the stress out of the overhaul
When you’re sitting down to the task of planning out how your employees will be organised during the office relocation, it is important to sketch out how work can best fit around the office move. The Health and Safety Executive has issued a guidebook entitled ‘Managing Shift Work: Health and Safety Guidance’ that could provide further advice when you come to plan shifts.
Scheduling early morning meetings or working late into the night may be the only option to ensure the least amount of disruption to your business during an office relocation, but be aware of the impact this can have on your staff. Essentially, it can alter your employees’ body clocks, cause tiredness and fatigue and affect their general wellbeing.
If you are planning on bringing in employees to work overtime or unsociable hours, it is important to alter the workload to compensate for this. Energy levels may be low and concentration is likely to wane after prolonged work. Planning shorter shifts during these outside hours will cause less disruption than longer shifts. Also, consider the breaks you need to provide in order to give workers time to recoup and relax.
Don’t leave employees under-staffed or under-supported during hectic times, always insist that staff get adequate assistance to complete the task in hand. It is preferable to spread any work that has been displaced by your relocation well in advance of the office move to lessen the pressure on staff during the transition.
