London 2012 Olympics office space legacy
With planning for the impending Olympics heating up, will new office space be a winner or just another hurdle for East London?
Without a doubt the 2012 Olympics to be held in London will undoubtedly alter the lay of the land for commercial office space in the East of the capital. But with concerns for office space falling into disuse after the last streamers have been swept away, what lies in store for this troubled area of London?
The need for offices to house media companies and press centres in order to broadcast the spectacle will require many more offices to be built in the area surrounding the Olympic Park. There will be a Broadcast Centre and a Press Centre constructed during the lead up to the games which will then receive alterations and refurbishments following the event.
So if you are considering an office move to East London, you better get in quick!
The Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe commented on the commercial property prospects for the location, “The Broadcast and Press Centres offer an unprecedented opportunity to create a new employment hub in Hackney Wick.” Adding, “Our vision is to see creative, digital and media industries making the centres their home and taking advantage of the creative community already thriving in the area. We must ensure the employment legacy vital to Hackney and East London is achieved and we will continue to work closely with our partners to secure this for our residents.”
In creating long term opportunities for the offices created by the Olympics, organisers can ensure that the legacy of the Games is a positive one that will draw funding into East London, which is home to some of the poorest communities in the UK. With the generation of affordable office space, it is hoped that businesses will be drawn to the up and coming area and the local economy will receive a much needed boost.
