Protect your equipment from moving damage
Prevent damage to precious equipment while moving with our top transit tips
We’ve all been there: you pull some of your items out of storage and realise that something precious has been chipped, squashed or even smashed. We often regret failing to make that extra bit of initial effort when the final mishap can be easily prevented.
The secret to any office move is to anticipate future problems and take steps to prevent them with due organisation. The process of packing is a perfect example of where this rule can be applied to your company’s benefit.
It takes only a few moments and a small investment in decent quality packing materials to ensure your office equipment makes it from A to B in perfect condition.
Wrap electrical items such as computers in anti-static bubble wrap. Monitors can lose pixels if the screen sustains any damage. Put your corresponding computer leads and mouse in a clear plastic sealable bag marked with indelible pen to identify the computer owner.
Stackable plastic crates are highly resilient and will protect items from being knocked about during transit.
Make sure that heavy items aren’t piled onto soft furnishings, as this can cause damages or tears. Use protective polythene furniture coverings where possible.
Avoid overstuffing and always leave sufficient air space at the top of each crate so that the contents don’t get crushed beneath the lid.
Packing tape is ideal for securing boxes and should be used rather than regular sticky tape, which can leave residue. Keep boxes identifiable with clear labelling and use polystyrene chips to provide extra protection.
