What to look for when renewing your Business Phone System

For most companies, a business phone system is one of the most important pieces of equipment they invest in. Whether you are moving office and want to use the opportunity to renew your phone system, or you simply need to upgrade to the latest technology, this basic Telecoms Checklist will help you find your way around what to look for when it comes to renewing or purchasing a new telephone system for your business.

You don't necessarily need to be a large organisation to upgrade your business phone system to the latest technology.  Smaller businesses are now reaping the benefits a new telephone system can bring; including improved efficiency and flexibility.

Telephone System Features to Consider:

  • How many lines does the phone system need to support?
  • Do you need digital ISDN?
  • Do you need automated attendant? (useful for call centres and/or businesses without a manned reception)

  • Call barring (barring users from dialing out certain numbers, particularly premium rate numbers)
  • Does your phone system need to be linked to mobile numbers? (useful for field sales and those working from home)
  • Would your staff benefit from a hands-free phone system? (handy for those recording data or typing as they speak on the phone)

Remember when choosing a business phone system not to be get too wrapped up in functionality.  A phone system needn't be too complex that your staff find it hard to operate, and it's no use having a phone system with multiple fancy features that you don't use.  A simple-to-use, cost-effective and efficient phone system will enable your business to operate more efficiently in your new office.
