Securing items for an office relocation
Before the office removals company arrives a number of preparations need to be made to secure your items
When moving office, any items, be they large or small, measures need to be taken to ensure that they are secure enough for transit. There is nothing worse than struggling with a filing cabinet as its drawers fall open or getting tangled up in wires as you move your computer. Thankfully, there are tips and tricks that can help to secure your items before the office move. Use the Office Removals Checklist and follow these general guidelines to prepare any items for an office move:
Small items – remove things from desks, shelves, bookcases and display cabinets and pack these into boxes. If they are heavy, such as paperweights, be sure not to overload boxes.
Personal items – removals companies do not generally deal with any items that are of a personal nature, so you will need to pack up any plants, papers, pictures and glassware that may be on your desk. If you have anything particularly valuable, pack it carefully in suitable containers with plenty of bubble wrap and a secure lid if needed.
Desks – let the professionals deal with these, or you risk doing serious injury to yourself. Make sure you empty all desks before they are hauled away and clearly label which items correspond to which desk. Small bits and bobs that are unlikely to break are suitable for packing into labelled envelopes or clear plastic bags, while other paperwork should be put into boxes. Bind any wires and place in labelled plastic bags.
Filing cabinets – Don’t empty filing cabinets, or you will just create a lengthy job of re-filing items at the other end. Rather, ensure you lock them and keep keys in a safely-kept and clearly labelled envelope, labelling the filing cabinet they belong to with a sticker or such like. If it isn’t a lockable cabinet, then make sure they are fastened shut with tape and/or string.
Your Office Removals company will handle all the packing of your office belongings on your behalf and ensure your items are safely transported from A to B.
