OK, so you’ve finally finished unpacking and you’ve paid your first month’s rent but something just doesn’t feel right. You’ve only been in your new office a few weeks but you’re already starting to miss that old leaky tap and the way the blind would tap against the window when it was windy.

It’s quite common to feel out of place in a new office, particularly if you were at your old office for quite a while. It takes a while to feel at home in any new building and your office is no exception! Although we can’t help you with your missing leaky tap or your noisy blind, we can give you a few tips to help you to feel less alienated in your new office space.

•    Keep some of your personal items – just because you’re in a new office doesn’t mean you have to make a completely new start. There’s nothing wrong with bringing that old chipped mug and that battered modern art painting into your new office. You need to bring some of your personal belongings over with you for a bit of familiarity - the trick is to get the right balance of new and old to help you move forward.

•    Invest in some new key items – unless you’ve already had an office design team in, your new office is probably going to look a bit bare. Sparsely decorated walls and desks can instantly lead to feelings of alienation and misery so get decorating! Invest in key pieces which say a lot about your company and you’ll soon be feeling at home in no time.

•    Make friends with the other businesses in the office – you may be new but you certainly needn't be alone! Just like being back at school, all businesses were new to your office block once! Be friendly with other businesses and you could end up meeting key business resources within the space of a couple of hundred yards.

•    Go and explore – remember there’s a reason you moved from your old office! Your new office is like a wealth of hidden treasure just waiting to be explored! Remember why you moved in the first place and make full use of your new office space.
