Common IT Relocation Mistakes To Avoid!
IT and Telecom Relocation Assumptions
Relocating your IT and office equipment requires a lot of planning and coordination. Without the appropriate planning for your equipment move you may cause major disruption to your business. Your computers, IT network and telephones should be up and running once you have moved into your new business premises. Even if you have boxes that still haven’t been unpacked, if your phones and computers are up and running, your workforce can carry on with business operations.
Many companies think that migrating their business IT and telecoms equipment is much like relocating their office furniture. However relocating your IT equipment requires a lot more planning and time for your move to go smoothly. You will need to review your current IT equipment, transfer your business phone lines and set up your equipment once you have moved into your new office space.
With your IT and Telecoms being a complex and daunting moving task, here are the 3 main assumptions you should never make when relocating your IT equipment:
- Never assume that moving your IT equipment is just a case of transferring your computers and phones from a to b, plug them in, switch them on and "hey-presto", your work is done! This will only set you up for disaster. You need to think about your computer networking and make sure that the correct cabling infrastructure is all in place to ensure a seamless IT and Telecoms migration.
- Do not presume that your current business phone number can relocate with you. Check with your phone line provider before you move to eliminate any disruption.
- Don't assume that ordering new phone lines takes a week or two to organise prior to your relocation date. Sometimes phone lines can take up to 90 days before everything is ready to go – plan your phone lines way in advance of your move.
