Starting an Office Relocation
Preparing for an Office Relocation
Before you even start an office relocation, you should first evaluate your options fully. If your existing office space already meets all your requirements in terms of size and budget, then staying put may well be a less expensive option for you. Just because your lease is expirying doesn't necessarily mean you have to move office. You may want to re-negotiate lease terms with your Landlord - but make sure you use a Property Agent to help you achieve the best terms on your behalf.
If, on the other hand, you have outgrown your existing offices or you want to downsize, you will need to start the office relocation planning and preparations. Here's some tips to kick- start your relocation project and get your office move on track:

Is everyone in agreement about the move? Discussing all your options fully and openly will help your business arrive at the right decision, and will also highlight the main reasons behind the move.
Define your Requirements
What are you looking for from your new office space? Bigger, smaller, cheaper, better facilities or location? Make a list and use the Office Space Checklist to remind you of all the things you need to consider from the new premises.
Set a Budget
Boring, I know, but it's essential to find out roughly how much your office move is likely to cost you - and indeed whether you can afford it. Use the Moving Office Budget Template to help you identify the costs of an office move and establish your budget.
When do you need to be out of your existing office by? This will determine your move date/weekend and the deadline for finding office space. Start planning an office relocation as early as possible and allow time for slippage too. When you're moving a business any multitude of things can go wrong; IT failure, phones not working properly etc. etc. Allowing yourself plenty of time will put you in the best position to execute a successful office move.
