Taking your Phone Number with you when you Move Office
Whatever business you’re in, your phone number is perhaps the most important method for your customers, suppliers and stakeholders to contact you.
It is therefore important for you to plan this aspect of your office move well in advance and seek advice from a professional IT & Telecoms Company about keeping your existing phone number with you wherever you move to.
There are certain telecoms systems which will allow you to retain your phone number (including the area code) even if you are moving out of that geographic area. This facility has many advantages, not least avoiding the hassle of having to let your customers know your new number. Check with your telecoms service provider whether it is possible to take your existing phone number with you.
If you can’t take your phone number with you, make sure you tick these items off your IT & Telecoms Checklist as early as possible in the office relocation project: -
- Consider converting to a non geographic number such as 0845, 0870 or 0844 etc. – you can take these numbers with you wherever you go and they are often easier numbers to remember
- Ask your Telecoms Service Provider about the cost to set up Remote Call Forwarding from your old number to your new one
- Leave your new number as a message recorded on your old number (called ‘Ceased Number Interception’)
- Think about how you are going to let your customers and suppliers know about your new number, using as many communication channels as possible will help get the message through (i.e. website, email, letter, phone call).
Moving office is the perfect time to consider reviewing/switching telecom service providers and upgrading your business phone systems. If you decide to do this, make sure you take into account your future growth plans so your new telecoms system will be sufficient to satisfy your immediate needs, as well as meeting future communication demands as your business grows.
