The key to an effective workplace
Good workplace design needs to provide your employees with the space and tools they need to complete assigned tasks productively. Your office design and layout needs to have the ability to support collaboration, employee productivity and provide the platform from which business success can be built. Today’s businesses have to face the challenge of longer working hours, smaller work spaces and keeping up with new technological advances. The workspace too has to adapt to these shifts, as well as support the increasing need for more collaboration and communication. Here are our tips for creating an effective commercial workplace:
1. Overall setup of the space
The overall setup of the space is crucial to a productive working environment. Before you begin an office redesign, think about the individual tasks that your staff need to perform in the space. This will help you allocate the right amount of office space per employee. Consider which individuals work together, and which teams need to collaborate. This will form the basis of your office space plan.
2. Make your office design an extension of your brand
An office space is more than simply a place for your staff to work, it needs to be an extension of your culture and brand. When choosing and designing the space, think about your business’s personality and image and incorporate this in the use of colour and choice of furnishings. Think about what first impression you want visitors to think and feel when they visit your office – and design your reception area around these goals.
3. Communal Areas
An effective workspace has a mix of spaces where staff can meet and collaborate. It’s important for staff to have somewhere to move to within the space that is away from their desk. A break out area with comfortable sofas will provide an ideal space for your staff to take a well-earned break from their computer screens and hold informal brainstorming meetings. Make these break out areas bright, relaxing and inspiring.
